SECONDARY AND HIGHER SECONDARY

Pre-Primary and Primary

The Secondary and Higher Secondary curriculum is designed to facilitate enquiry, research and rigorous study such that young people can connect with increasingly complex constructs with an enduring interest. Theme based curriculum approach will continue in the middle classes with project work spread out over longer periods of time and across discipline areas such as Science, Languages, Arts, Social Science and Mathematics. Through project work, children will be encouraged to make fundamental connections with the processes of enquiry. Project presentations will be often put together as exhibitions and models that are shared with different classes.

In the middle school, specific processes will be integrated with the curriculum to help children take the impending unit assessments and examinations with confidence. Children in Class VI will be introduced to unit assessments and end-of-year examinations; from Class VII onwards children will take unit assessments, term and end-of-year examinations.

Following NCERT guidelines the objectives of subject-specific curriculum will be as follows:

Languages: The language curriculum will aim at developing the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing in a variety of contexts and train students to be able to adapt language to suit different tasks. It will instill confidence in the students so that they can use their skills and abilities effectively. It will help students develop critical abilities – to analyze and evaluate diverse texts and to question ideas and express their points of view.

Social Science: The curriculum for Social Sciences will aim at covering the Physical, Geographical, Cultural and Social Environment and reflect components of History, Geography, Social and Political Structures, integrated up to Class IV and then as separate subjects from Class V onwards. The aim is to inculcate a spirit of inquiry, analysis, evaluation as well as application of learning in the current context.

Mathematics and Technology: The Math Curriculum aims at developing strategies that improve learners’ logical thinking and analytical ability. It will help develop the ability to approximate and estimate, to use trial and improvement techniques, look for patterns and make hypothesis. It will help in the development of computational skills and spatial intelligences. A Mathematical Lab will be set up as an integral and a compulsory part of the Mathematics curriculum and will be examinable from classes VI to X under Formative Assessments.

Information and Communication Technology (ICT): ICT will be a compulsory component of the curriculum. It will help students assess the impact of new technologies on society and train them to use these productively. The program will help the students understand the use of common software applications and use technology to enhance their ability to access, evaluate and research information.

Science: The Science curriculum will offer students the opportunity to be curious, to question, to investigate, to formulate hypothesis, design and carry out experiments, make critical observations and record results.

Physical Education, Performing Arts and Visual Arts: Separate curriculums exist for each and combined together these disciplines aim at developing imagination, sense of aesthetics, sensitivity and inventiveness.

The Physical Education (PE) curriculum contributes to physical fitness by promoting basic body management and developing mastery of coordinated and skillful movements.

The Performing Arts Curriculum provides a means for personal expression of ideas within self as well as in public. This will lead to inspiring and confident participation thus developing social skills through creative teamwork and enhances communication skills.

The Visual Arts curriculum promotes cognitive aesthetic and emotional growth. Students will realize the joy of expression through various media. They will learn to appreciate art from different cultures as well as the native arts of the country against the backdrop of the cultural context in which they exist.

The Curriculum also includes integrated learning of Life Skills covering Creative and Critical Thinking Skills, Interpersonal Skills, Effective Communication Skills, Problem-Solving and Decision Making Skills, Conflict Resolution Skills, Collaborative Skills, Leadership Skills, Self Esteem, Empathy and Dealing with Emotions as well as Coping with Stress in an age-appropriate manner through the pedagogy in the learning of the subjects.
